florescence

In these pieces, I combine elements from plants, animals, insects, and synthetic materials, merging them into hybrid flower specimens. The images are constructed by placing objects on a scanner, which captures an extraordinary level of detail, akin to the quality of a large-format negative in traditional photography. This method connects the work to the history of documentary photography used to record botanical specimens, medical conditions, and forensic evidence. I was inspired by the idea of flowers as the sex organs of plants, removed from their reproductive role and transformed through the flower industry into objects for ritualistic use, often displayed in domestic settings.
